Charla Nash, In Chimp Attack Faces At Least Two Years Of Surgeries
It will most likely take two years and numerous surgeries to reconstruct the face of Charla Nash, the Stamford woman who lost both hands and portions of her face during a savage chimpanzee attack this year."
Nash's injuries include traumatic brain injury and the loss of both her hands, her nose, lips and eyelids. She is blind in both eyes, with no chance of improvement, according to the clinic.
In the past 10 days, Nash has made "significant neurological and psychological improvement" and can now communicate with her family and caregivers, according to the clinic. But she has a long road ahead. It is still too early to consider a face transplant, the clinic's statement said.
