FORT PIERCE — Dr. Carole C. Noon, 59, the founder and director of Save the Chimps Sanctuary in St. Lucie County died Saturday of a recent illness.
Officials at the sanctuary had no comment but said they will be issuing a statement this week.
Noon moved to Fort Pierce in 1999 from Boynton Beach.
She founded Save the Chimps in 1997 to provide a sanctuary for chimpanzees that had been used in the early space program and in laboratory testing. The 150-acre facility in western St. Lucie County is now home to more than 160 chimpanzees.
A memorial service will be announced on the Savethechimps.org Web site. Arrangements are under the direction of Haisley Funeral & Cremation Service. A guestbook may be signed at www.haisleyfuneralhome.com."

ReplyDeleteIt's May 29th/09 now, nearly a month later when
ReplyDeleteCarole Noon passed away. I am so sorry, but I
just couldn't write sooner. I have been crying
for her and the chimpanzees, just because they
both are beautiful. I never knew Carole, but
looking at her and hearing her talk touched me.
MAY GOD BLESS HER SOUL AND THE CHIMPANZEES.
How dare man use animal for space jouneys and
medical and other research. Shame on weakling
man.. shame... shame... shame.

ReplyDeleteYour comment truly touched my heart and brought tears down my face. Words can not express the sorrow that everyone feels for the loss of a great person with a great heart and soul. I'm sure all of her Chimps miss her deeply, and I only hope she is able to keep a watchful eye over them where ever she is.
She is sadly missed and perhaps someday our sorrow will be replaced with again, the great memories of the great achievements she has made for the Chimps. She is one of a kind, that's for sure.
Thank you for sharing your heart filled message with us.
