A little monkey business ensued Monday in Basehor.
Shortly after 3 p.m. that day, the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a Basehor resident who spotted a monkey perched on the front porch of the Brandt Road home where she was watching her grandchildren.
According to a sheriff’s office report, the monkey returned to its owner’s place of residence on Roger Road. Contact was made with the owner, Shannon Bartko, who said she possessed a permit for the monkey, but she was unable to produce this permit.
The sheriff’s office is allowing Bartko time to find her permit or obtain a new one. The monkey was reclaimed by Bartko and returned to its cage.
