NASA halts plans of radiation on monkeys

BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. — A NASA-run facility on the campus of Long Island's Brookhaven National Laboratory has halted plans for research on squirrel monkeys.
Newsday says animal-welfare activists and schoolchildren had opposed blasting the monkeys with radiation.
The proposed $1.75 million project was aimed at learning how a space voyage to Mars might affect the brain.
