Unheeded Warning to CT's DEP, Sandra Herold
Despite the warning signs and recommendations outlined in a report from a Department of Environmental Protection wildlife biologist [CTNews, March 21, "Biologist Warned Of Danger"], the DEP missed an opportunity to make an important decision about the fate of Travis the chimp.
As a Connecticut citizen and taxpayer, I question why DEP Commissioner Gina McCarthy was more concerned over the custody status of a "local celebrity" chimp than the obvious potential danger Travis posed to public safety.
Clearly, this is a tragedy that could have been averted, and Commissioner McCarthy must live with her decision to do nothing in the face of compelling evidence."
