REIDSVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) — A monkey that was ordered to be euthanized last week after it attacked a local woman tested negative for rabies, according to the Rockingham Co. Health Director.
Rockingham County Health Director Glenn L. Martin said Monday the test results for the monkey came back negative.
A state veterinarian ordered the monkey to be euthanized after the monkey attacked a Reidsville woman. Officials said there was uncertainty on whether rabies vaccinations worked for monkeys.
Joe, the Black Capped Capuchkin Monkey, was tranquilized by North Carolina Zoo officials and then taken to a local vet, where he was put to sleep.
