Gone Wild!, an after-hours art show featuring original works by zoo animals on Friday, September 25 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
Art Gone Wild! patrons can enjoy a glass of wine and hors d'oeuvres as they peruse inspired works by some of Knoxville Zoo's artists in residence. Making their debut this year are paintings by George, the oneyear-
old chimpanzee born at the zoo last July. His chimpanzee companions Bo, Julie and Lu have all contributed works to this year's event, as well as his mother Daisy who did some painting with help from
George. Other animal artists participating in Art Gone Wild! are Kali the white tiger, Bantu and Ernie gorillas, Jello and Gypsy penguin, Edie, Jana, and Tonka elephants and an impressive collaborative work by all
the zoo's black bears; Alvin, Otis, Ursula, and Feeber. Fans of big cats will find contributions from cheetahs to bobcats, and this could be your chance to add an original "Vermeerkat" to you collection-painted by the
meerkats, of course.
The event will also give guests a chance to see some of the artists at work; Jana and Edie elephants will be creating two very special paintings on canvas to be auctioned off at the event. The meerkats will be creating a special work for the evening's auction as well. The evening will also feature some of the zoo's reptiles demonstrating their painting talents,
too.
All proceeds from Art Gone Wild! go to fund the zoo's enrichment program, which provides stimulating
environments that enhance the well-being of the zoo's animals and encourage natural behaviors. Art Gone Wild! is for guests 21 years and older, and a photo ID will be required to enter the event.
Special thanks to 106.1 FM The River.
