Kolkata, Sep 20 (PTI) A person arrested in connection with the theft of eight rare Brazilian monkeys from the century-old Alipore zoo was today sent to police custody for 10 days by a local court here.
Nitin Gaikwad, a resident of Chembur in Mumbai and was arrested there recently, is the brother-in-law of the main accused Rajesh Saikia.
A senior Kolkata police official claimed that Nitin was with Rajesh on August 8 - the day when the Marmosets were stolen from the zoo.
He also claimed that the police recovered the skeleton of a stolen Marmoset from Nitin's house.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Headquarter) Jawed Shamim said there was ample evidence to show that he was actively involved in the case, though he was yet to be interrogated.
