Daniel Alamary, 25, said he was preparing to move from Hollywood to Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday night when his monkey, Simon, disappeared. The year-old black-tufted marmoset is small and soft-furred, he said.
"I've had him since he was a baby," Alamary said, recalling how Simon was the size of a thumb when he was born.
Alamary said he reported Simon's disappearance to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Wednesday.
However, when a man visiting one of the residents saw Simon, he said he wanted to capture the monkey and sell him, Alamary said.
A manager at North Lake, Fernando Mendoza, said Friday he was looking into the matter.
Meanwhile, Alamary said Friday that he is in touch with the Wildlife Commission as he tries to recover his pet.
Anyone with information about the monkey's whereabouts can call the Wildlife Commission at 1-888-404-FWCC (3922).

Alamary said he was canvassing his neighborhood Thursday, when he found an employee from an assisted-living facility who told him he had seen the monkey at his workplace.
The employee from North Lake Retirement Home Inc. in Hollywood told Alamary the monkey had delighted the facility's residents, Alamary said.
