CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla.— (UPI) — A smart little monkey with plenty of stamina was shot 1,700 miles through space today but apparently died in the interest of science in the of the south Atlantic
The mission was called "completely successful" despite the loss of the space traveler. The monkey, named "Little Old Reliable," was a passenger in the nose cone of a Jupiter intermediate range missile that zipped probably 300 miles high and then plummeted back into the earth's atmosphere at 10,000 miles an hour Ships and planes crisscrossed the ocean in the designated impact area, south of Martinique, for hours looking for the nose cone and the little monkey but finally the search was called off....
